French film Les Misérables gets trailer and official release date
You now the book and the adaptations, now it’s time for a modern-day take on an old story. Les Misérables is coming in January, and here’s the first look.
Les Misérables is an upcoming French-language Amazon Studios production that you’ll certainly want to check out. Whether you know the Victor Hugo novel, the various adaptations, or the stage production, this is a retelling with a twist.
In fact, it’s not really a retelling. The movie has been given the same name as the novel out of respect for that story. After all, it’s still about tensions between the people and authorities in France. However, there’s more than a class divide element to it. Race, culture, and more divide the individuals, and you can watch it in theaters on Jan. 10, 2020.

While it’s not an adaptation, you’ll see familiar characters. Issa is Gavroche, the younger brother of Cossette who fights for freedom. The police officer determined to do what’s right for the people is the Javert of the story. The characters witness and even live through misery in France, just like each of the characters within the novel and the musical adaptation.
Yet, it’s a story within itself. You’ll get that when you immediately watch the newly released trailer for the Amazon Studios film.

FIlmed in Montfermeil and Clichy-sous-Bois, you’ll continue to get that Les Misérables feel. After all, the novel was set in a town like Montfermeil, and there are parts of the town that still connect to the story.
So, what exactly is this new movie about? Damien Bonnard plays Stéphane, a new member of the Anti-Crime squad in Montfermeil. He joins Chris and Gwada (Alexis Manenti and Djebril Zonga), who use some of the most unorthodox methods at times, leading to tensions between various groups in the neighborhood. When the three are overrun during an arrest and things go sideways, they realize they’ve been filmed on a drone.
