The Boys: Patton Oswalt will join Season 2 but what’s the role?
Patton Oswalt is landed a role in The Boys Season 2. What do we know so far? I’ll admit it’s very little, but let’s take a dive.
You remember how secretive The Boys was for its first season, right? Well, things are just the same for Season 2. If you thought we’d get a lot of information about Patton Oswalt’s role in the series, you’d be mistaken.
All we know right now is that he has a role of some sort. And that’s only because Eric Kripke shared a photo on Twitter of him and Oswalt with a caption thanking Oswalt. “That was amazing,” Kripke wrote, suggesting that Oswalt’s role on the show has come to an end.

Of course, this hasn’t stopped The Boys fans from speculating about the role based on the information from the graphic novel. There are plenty of changes from the novel, but there have also been many elements that have remained the same, such as Homelander being the absolute worst!
The biggest speculation right now is that Oswalt will play The Legend. In the graphic novels, The Legend is a former comic book writer and editor. He has an encyclopedic knowledge of superheroes, which would certainly be useful for the vigilante group.
It would be extremely meta since Oswalt has written his own comic books, but that’s nothing new for Eric Kripke. This is the guy who created Supernatural, and we all know how meta that can get, right?
If he is The Legend, it would certainly be a slight change to the storyline in terms of timing. The Legend didn’t appear until issue #7. He’s an informant for The Boys, as he used to work for Vought-American Victory Comics, writing all the comics that fans bought. He had two sons but both were killed, partially to blame by Vought-American (just Vought in the world of The Boys).
However, while he has reason to dislike Vought and The Seven, he also feels a connection to Queen Maeve and has been her confidant at times. This could be an excellent way to develop Queen Maeve’s character, as she showed signs of wanting to change for the better by the end of the first season.
He doesn’t quite end up on good terms with The Boys. I’ll leave you to your own digging to find out what happens to him.
