Constance Zimmer lands recurring role in Shameless Season 10

Shameless Season 10 won’t have Emmy Rossum, but it’s just landed a recurring star that will partially make up for it. Constance Zimmer has signed on.

Watching Shameless Season 10 isn’t going to be easy without Emmy Rossum. Well, the show knows that, which is why it’s given us some awesome news. Constance Zimmer will recur in the SHOWTIME series.

Deadline shared the news, even offering some information about the character she’ll play. Get ready for some interactions between Zimmer and Emma Kenney, whose Debbie is stepping into the matriarch role left open by Rossum’s exit.

It’s not clear just how many episodes Zimmer will be in yet, but she’ll play a character called Claudia, who has an encounter at a hotel bar with Debbie. A sophisticated and wealthy woman, Claudia makes some assumptions about Debbie, sending our young Gallagher into an existential crisis. Her role will last multiple episodes.

I’ll be honest and say I’ve been a fan of Zimmer since she first appeared in Boston Legal. While she doesn’t always play characters you can love (her Grey’s Anatomy character was questionable), there are usually more layers that the shows don’t get to always uncover. There’s a want to like her characters because it’s Zimmer playing then. Will that be the case here?

Shameless Season 10 picks up six months after the events of the Season 9 finale. Fiona has left for warmer climes, leaving while Debbie and Lip planned her goodbye party. While most of the characters wished her well, Frank was angry that yet someone else he loved was leaving him. It wouldn’t be surprising to see some of that come up in the earlier episodes.

Will he have a run-in with Constance Zimmer? Right now it sounds like she’s only going to be around Debbie, but I’m sure we’ll see.
