There have been many tales told of Ancient Greece and the Persian war. This movie starring Gerard Butler and Lena Headey brings one that is full of action, beautiful storytelling, and highly impressive graphics. Based on Frank Miller and Lynn Varley’s comic series of the same name, the movie keeps some of the comic inspirations within the battles.

Zack Snyder directed this masterpiece. You know the story is a fictionalized retelling of the Battle of Thermopylae. It’s something to watch for fun, but you’ll certainly want to do your research into the real battle afterward. Just how close to the truth does this story sit?

Naturally, not everyone liked the movie. The depiction of the Persians is one of the elements that is criticized by many, but it’s worth remembering that this is based on the 1986 comic series. It grossed more than $450 million at the Box Office and gained a sequel, 300: Rise of an Empire based on Miller’s graphic novel prequel Xerxes, which had previously been unpublished.

Despite the negativity around the Persians, the movie is well-acted and beautifully made. There’s no doubt that you’ll come and stay for the graphics and the storytelling.
