Amazon Studios and Lauren Oliver’s Glasstown Entertainment ink first-look deal
Amazon Studios continues inking deals, this time with Lauren Oliver’s Glasstown Entertainment. This is a first-look deal and here’s what it means.
Amazon Studios is inking deals left and right at the moment, and with some influential people across the board of Entertainment. The latest deal comes in the form of a first-look deal with Lauren Oliver’s Glasstown Entertainment.
The news comes eight months after Amazon officially picked up Oliver’s book Panic pilot for its first YA drama series. Now, there will be more exclusive Amazon Originals coming to the service from the author, along with her production company co-founders Lexa Hillyer and Lynley Bird.

Inking this first-look deal means that Amazon will get the first right of refusal on any projects that Oliver and Glasstown create. Should Amazon refuse, then Oliver will be free to look elsewhere to shop the ideas. However, she will be contracted to create more ideas for Amazon Prime Video.
This deal, which was initially reported exclusively by Deadline, shows the direction Amazon Studios is moving. Panic will be the first YA drama, but there have been plenty of other book adaptations and exciting TV shows over the years. Oliver knows the YA audience well, and it’s likely that she’ll create more of these types of dramas for fans.
According to Amazon COO and Co-Head of Television at Amazon Studios, Albert Cheng, there’s hope that more captivating stories are created. He told Deadline:
"“We’re looking forward to seeing more character-driven stories and fresh, captivating new voices from Glasstown for our Amazon Prime Video customers.”"
This is definitely going to be exciting for Oliver, too. Panic will be her first television credit after a successful career as a YA author. What better way to develop a TV portfolio than through Amazon Prime Video?
