What to watch this weekend on Prime Video [Aug 3-4]

We’re into the last month of summer vacation so how are you going to kick-off your August? How about by watching some content on Amazon Prime Video?
In terms of what’s new on Amazon Prime this weekend, your pickings are pretty slim. The streamer is keeping a low-profile after releasing its latest hit series, The Boys. I’ll go ahead and stop here and say if you haven’t watched The Boys yet, I highly recommend you sprint off to go watch it!
The show has already been renewed for a second season and it’s setting social media ablaze. People are loving it and you don’t want to be the one person who is missing out! However, if The Boys simply isn’t your thing or you’ve already binged it, then we do have a couple more suggestions for you to look into this weekend on Amazon Prime.

This is Football (Season 1)
This is a highly anticipated new documentary series that will take a deep dive into the world behind the popular sport. It’s a six-part documentary produced by Joe Roth, Starbucks, October Films, and more.
According to the original Deadline article about this acquisition, each episode will focus on a different theme from redemption to pride in the growing role of women involved in the game. It’s meant to be an impactful and introspective documentary. If you’re a football fan, don’t miss out. Watch the trailer for the series here.

This movie swept awards-season earlier this year. It follows a Queen in 18th-century England. Her closest friend, Lady Sarah, governs the country while tending to the Queen’s health. But then a new servant named Abigail comes to work for the Queen. She and Sarah begin to compete in increasingly hilarious antics to prove themselves as the Queen’s favorite.

Boy Erased (2018)

This film is based on Garrard Conley’s memoir of the same name. It tells the story of Jared Eamons, who is outed and must deal with the fallout. He is the son of a Baptist pastor in the middle of small-town America.
His parents don’t know how to reconcile their beliefs with how much they love their son. He is pressured into attending conversion therapy and while there begins a journey to figure out his true self.

American Horror Story (2011 – present)
American Horror Story returns to our television screens next month with its ninth installment. The new season is set to be themed around slasher movies. If you’ve never had the chance to watch AHS, now is the perfect time to start.
If you begin watching Ryan Murphy’s infamous horror anthology this weekend you should have time to finish by the time the next season premieres in September. Plus, you’ll get to see the fantastic Connie Britton in action. She recently signed a first-look deal with Amazon Studios.

Hick (2012)

Speaking of first-look deals, Blake Lively also signed one with Amazon Studios and currently has several projects in the works. You should check out her underrated film, Hick, which stars Lively as Glenda, a drifter who pretends to be a mother to Moretz’s character, Luli.
The movie is based on a novel by Andrea Portes. It follows Luli as she tries to escape her abusive parents and leave Las Vegas behind for good. Along the way, she meets Glenda and the two join up to go on the run.
