Hughie and Starlight head to a Christian convention in The Boys Season 1, Episode 5. The truth about Compound V is revealed.
In The Boys Season 1, Episode 5, Hughie gets baptized at the Christian convention, while the rest of the vigilantes learn more about Compound V. Here’s everything that happened in the episode.
We start off in Cuba, where Popclaw is hiding out away from Homelander. A-Train offers her protection but she needs to be honest. So, that’s exactly what she is, telling him everything about what she told the Boys. If only A-Train was honest. He kills her, making the death look like a heroin overdose and heads to Popclaws for the footage of the Boys.

With that side storyline seemingly over, we go back to Hughie and Starlight. The two are at the Believe Expo, where Starlight is making an appearance. The stretchy, hypocritical Supe, Ezekiel, is the one leading it, and Butcher has a mission for Hughie. After taking photos of Ezekiel kissing men, Hughie needs to get a meet-and-greet with Ezekiel to blackmail him. The best way of doing that is getting Starlight to get him VIP access.
While Hughie is baptized (that’s the meet and greet that everyone already seems to know about), Starlight starts questioning her faith. Everyone is forcing her to talk about converting others, no pre-marital sex, and more that she just doesn’t agree with, she can’t get over how much everything has changed. As a child, she looked up to everyone here and now she doesn’t feel like she fits in.
As for Starlight and Hughie, it looks like their relationship (or even just friendship) could be over before it even gets started. Starlight is sure that Hughie has been using her for access to Ezekiel, but if only she really knew what he was using her for. The two do share a heart-to-heart, as Starlight admits that she’s wavering in her faith and Hughie tells her about Robin.
Fortunately, the blackmailing of Ezekiel works on The Boys. It turns out Compound V is shipped out to hospitals across the country. When Butcher and Mother’s Milk get to the hospital, they learn that babies are being doped up with the Compound V. They’re not chosen by God after all.
Black Noir attacks and it looks like Frenchie could be killed off, until The Female shows up. She helps the Boys escape but is gravely injured at the same time. Frenchie returns to mourn for her, just as she heals herself and comes back from the dead.
Naturally, we now need to know more. It looks like The Female is a Supe, though. What will the Boys do with her?
We’re over the halfway part of The Boys Season 1 and things have definitely picked up the pace. At this point, it’s clear that Supes are manufactured, which puts them in a whole new light. Just how are those who don’t know about Compound V going to react when (because it’s always a when) they learn the truth?
