Amazon renews The Expanse for Season 5
Amazon is showing faith in the space series. The Expanse has been handed a Season 5 renewal, six months ahead of the Season 4 premiere.
The Expanse was saved by Amazon after its SYFY cancellation in May 2018. Since then, we’ve barely heard anything, until SDCC 2019, where we were told the fourth season would premiere on Dec. 13. Now, six months, ahead of the premiere, Amazon has renewed The Expanse for Season 5.
It’s exciting news, showing the faith Amazon has in the series. Very few networks or streaming services will renew six months ahead of the premiere and shows the support the fandom has given Amazon for saving the show. This renewal is likely based on the viewership for The Expanse Seasons 1-3 now that they’re on Prime Video internationally.

What we don’t know is how many episodes the fifth season will get. It will likely follow the same format as previous seasons, opting for 10-13 episodes. The great news is that while Deadline reports about the fifth season, there’s no sign of it being the last (which is something Netflix did after saving Lucifer and renewing it for the fifth season).
There’s plenty of source material for The Expanse. The series is based on the books by James S.A. Corey, and he just recently brought out another book in the expansive (see what I did there?) series.
The Expanse Season 4 will see a new chapter for the Rocinante crew, on a mission to explore new worlds that sit beyond the Ring Gate. There are thousands of Earth-like plants, creating a land rush and continuing the tensions between Earth, Mars, and The Belt.
Ilus has become the first planet that the Earthers, Belters, and Martians want to colonize. However, like with exploring different lands and planets, there are dangers just around the corner. A sneak peek was revealed at SDCC 2019, along with a trailer.
We eagerly anticipate the fourth season. Now it’s even better knowing that Amazon has already renewed The Expanse for Season 5.
