Aladdin is the latest Disney classic to receive the live-action treatment. It’s likely to a big success but when can you bring it home to watch?
Disney is in the habit of remaking its classic animated films into live-action blockbuster movies with Aladdin being the latest in its line-up. Whether or not this is a worthwhile venture is a hotly debated subject but regardless of where you stand on the argument, there’s no denying the large audience clamoring for more.
Even though the trend has become increasingly popular in recent years, Disney actually tried to start a live-action franchise more than a decade ago with 101 Dalmatians. But the fad didn’t really catch on until 2010’s Alice in Wonderland.
Update: The release date for Aladdin has now been confirmed. Disney has also brought the original 1992 animation out of the Disney Vault.

Since then we’ve seen Maleficent, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Dumbo, and several more. Aladdin may be the next one in the pipeline but it certainly isn’t the last.
Even if the movie doesn’t do well with critics, as several haven’t, it will still make a big splash at the box office. So when will you be able to buy Aladdin for yourself to rewatch at home?
Disney’s last three live-action films, Dumbo, Christopher Robin, and Beauty and the Beast, were released on home video approximately three months after their theatrical debut. If Aladdin follows the same pattern then I estimate it will be available to purchase in mid- to late-August.
You’ll be able to buy the movie on Amazon Video the same day as its DVD and Blu-Ray release.
Unfortunately, now that Disney is launching its own streaming service with Disney+, it is unlikely we’ll ever see Aladdin available on Prime Video. It remains to be seen if Disney+ will alter the digital purchase availability of their future films.
