Poldark Season 4 is now on Amazon Prime Video. Fans of the book adaptation now want to know if there will be a fifth season of the series. Here are the details about Poldark Season 5.

Will there be a fifth season of Poldark? That’s a question for many fans now that Season 4 is on Amazon Prime Video. Here’s a look at all the details we know about Poldark Season 5.

The great news is that a fifth season has been confirmed. The BBC One drama will air on PBS in the United States, before being available on Amazon Prime Video to join the first four seasons. However, there is some bad news. The fifth season is slated to be the final season with Aiden Turner and Eleanor Thompson in the roles of Ross and Demelza.

There hasn’t been any word on when the fifth season will premiere on BBC One, however, June 2019 was touted at one point. That’s certainly not yet been confirmed and now many expect it to be fall 2019 before Poldark Season 5. Filming had been delayed until September last year due to Turner performing in the West End production, The Lieutenant of Inishmore.

Caution: There are some spoilers for Season 4 from this point.

While the series is based on 12 novels, the first three seasons covered the first six books. Then the fourth season covered the whole of Book 7, titled “The Angry Tide.” With Season 5 possibly being the last, it looks like the story will revolve around the remaining five novels, which are mostly focused on the children of the main characters. According to Good Housekeeping, the fifth season may actually revolve around the 10 years between books seven and eight, instead of moving forward with the book series.

There are plenty of questions for the fifth season. At the end of Poldark Season 4, Elizabeth Warleggan died after giving birth to daughter Ursula. However, her husband was unconvinced that their first child was even his, possibly being Ross Poldark’s instead. Will George decide to forsake son Valentine now that his wife is dead?

BBC One’s official synopsis for Poldark Season 5 is as follows:

"It is a new century and with it comes the promise of a hopeful future, but the past casts a long shadow over Cornwall. Following the death of Elizabeth, Ross Poldark resolves to put Westminster behind him and spend more time with the people he loves. However, when an old friend emerges with a plea for help, Ross is compelled to challenge the establishment again. As the Enyses (Luke Norris and Gabriella Wilde) rally to join the cause, Demelza must contend with dangers close to home, while George (Jack Farthing) courts corrupt powers whose influence spans the Empire."

There’s certainly plenty of scope for drama and romance. We’ll have to wait and see what’s in store when BBC One or PBS finally drops a trailer for the fifth season. At least we know that it is definitely happening.
