The Boys is an Amazon Prime Original show coming this summer, and we couldn’t help but notice these three things about the trailer.

If you enjoy superhero movies and TV shows, The Boys could definitely be right up your alley, but be warned — this is nothing like Marvel. The Boys is darker, dirtier, bloodier with less morality.

Amazon recently put out the trailer for the show that will premiere on Prime on July 26, which you can watch below. We couldn’t help but notice a few interesting tidbits.

Here are three takeaways from The Boys trailer.

It’s dark

We’re not talking about the lighting. The Boys is a dark show that looks at the ugly side of being a superhero.

More from Amazon Originals

Generally, we have gotten TV shows and movies with superheroes and supervillains. But what happens when those lines are blurred, when superheroes embrace the fame and fortune?

It’s kind of like The Watchmen in that regard, but based off of the trailer, The Boys seems it won’t be holding anything back. There’s going to be lots of violence with maybe the audience not being sure who the good guys are.

Maybe there aren’t any.

Reminiscent of Preacher

Preacher is an AMC show heading into it’s fourth and final season. It’s dark, gritty and filled with lots of violence too. The Boys trailer reminded me of Preacher with the way it was shot, the way it showed the violence and the quirkiness of it too.

This shouldn’t be surprising considering The Boys executive producers were also the same ones for Preacher. There’s bound to be overlap and it seemed evident just in the trailer alone.

There are female superheroes

This shouldn’t come as a surprise, but sometimes we’re reminded just how often women are left out of the conversation when watching Marvel films. TV shows have done a much better job of having women in its storylines such as Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Supergirl, and Black Lightning.

But with all the superheroes in the Marvel movies, the men still significantly outnumber the women. In The Boys trailer, it seems the woman are just as corrupt as the men — and use their powers in rather interesting ways. They bring a whole new meaning to death grip.
