John Cusack joins Amazon’s Utopia in world-changing role
Utopia has landed movie star John Cusack on the project. He’ll play a potentially world-changing role in the Amazon Prime Original.
Utopia is one of the latest big projects under development by Amazon Studios. It’ll come to the platform likely in 2020 and has already landed Sasha Lane and Rainn Wilson. John Cusack is the latest high-profile name to join the series.
Cusack, known for a number of roles including Sixteen Candles and Say Anything, will take on the role of a scientist and philanthropist called Dr. Kevin Christie. He wants to change the world through the use of science, likely the biotech he’s creating. He’s certainly charismatic, which the leader of a revolution will need, but is he really someone we can trust?

Written and produced by Gone Girl’s Gillian Flynn, the series is an adaptation of the British drama originally released in 2013. It ran for two seasons on British TV and built a cult following extremely quickly.

When five strangers meet online, they find out that they’re all being hunted by an organization that doesn’t seem to have a head to it. And it’s all because of a cult underground graphic novel. What could possibly be so sacred and dangerous about the graphic novel? Well, it’s soon clear that the comic’s pages may include conspiracy theories that are real, pulling the five young adults into the dangerous mission of saving the world.
The characters have been changed from the British drama. It’s worth noting that Cusack’s character’s surname is the same as the surname of another character. Cory Michael Smith will play Thomas Christie. Is this a clue into what to expect in the upcoming series?
