Shameless Season 9 DVD review: What to expect and why it’s worth buying
The Shameless Season 9 DVD is out soon. What can you expect and why is it worth buying, even if you watched it all on SHOWTIME?
Shameless Season 9 will be out on DVD very soon. It’s released on Apr. 23 (already available on Digital) and is one of the highly anticipated releases for the month. Why is the Shameless Season 9 DVD worth buying? What can you expect?
Thanks to our friends at Lipping Group and Warner Bros., we were gifted an advance copy of Shameless: The Complete Ninth Season in order to bring you an in-depth review. Whether you’ve watched the season on SHOWTIME, you’re waiting for the Netflix release date, or you’re waiting for the DVD copy, this is your chance to find out what you’ll get.
Will the four-disc boxset live up to expectations? I certainly believe so.

There are three or four episodes per disc (the first and last disc have three episodes and the middle two discs have four episodes). These are all the episodes you’ve watched on SHOWTIME, giving us Emmy Rossum’s final run on the season.
The majority of episodes have unaired scenes included. You can watch the deleted footage — and we’ll be bringing you an exclusive look at one of the deleted scenes next weekend, so be sure to look out for that.
There’s only one episode with no unaired scenes. Episode 9, titled “BOOOOOOOOOOOONE!” doesn’t have anything included, but there’s at least one scene for every other episode and you’ll find them on the discs with the respective episodes to make it easier to see how all the pieces fit together.
Shameless Season 9 may be Rossum’s final season, but she doesn’t get all the attention. The full Gallagher clan has something going on. Frank starts campaigning for a candidate with questionable morales because he realizes there are financial opportunities in mind, while Fiona attempts to make her real estate dreams a success.
Ian faces consequences because of the crimes he committed, while Lip decides it’s time to be a dad — and he certainly steps up to the plate! Debbie wants equal pay, Carl wants to be a cadet at West Point, and Liam may no longer be able to attend his private school. There’s plenty of comedy, drama, and family love to spread around this season.
Featured episodes include:
- Are you there Shim? It’s me, Ian
- Mo White!
- Weirdo Gallagher Vortex
- Do Right, Vote White
- Black Haired Ginger
- Face It, You’re Gorgeous
- Down like the Titanic
- The Apple Doesnt’ Fall Far from the Alibi
- BOOOOOOOOOOOONE!
- Los Diablos!
- The Hobo Games
- You’ll Know the Bottom When You Hit It
- Lost
- Found
Why get Shameless Season 9 on DVD
When you can stream through SHOWTIME and Netflix, why bother getting the DVD set? Well, the methods of streaming don’t give you the deleted scenes and this is a DVD set packed with them. Where else will you see a show that gives you at least one deleted scene per episode (well, for 13 out of 14 episodes)?
Plus, the DVD makes it possible to watch whenever you want. Once you have it, there’s no need to keep paying for a subscription. Sure, you can get Amazon Video copies and you’ll have them for life, but the best quality always comes from the DVD boxsets.
You’ve got 780 minutes of content through the DVD. You can watch your favorite episodes over and over again, just put on the deleted scenes when you want a quick laugh, and enjoy the show whenever you want.
