Just as it sounded, Apple TV+ is going to take aim at Amazon Prime’s offerings of subscription services. Aspects sound just like Amazon Channels and there may even be an extra twist.

Apple unveiled its Apple TV+ service earlier today, Mar. 25. Just as expected, there were elements to it that sounded a lot like Amazon Channels. There’s even going to be an extra Amazon twist.

One thing missing from the unveil was a price, including pricing for the subscriptions. This could be where Apple differs. Right now, subscribers through Amazon Channels pay the exact same that they would by going direct through the subscription service. If Apple is smart, it will offer the same pricing structure.

More from Amazon

The difference is that Amazon Prime Originals were clearly on show as part of the subscription service. It looks like Amazon Prime Video is going to be one of the offerings.

If so, this is actually a good thing for Amazon. After all, Amazon will still get the customers but will just have to pay a small amount to Apple for being included. Consumers can get all their content in one place. The Apple TV+ app will also be available on Amazon Fire TVs, suggesting that Amazon wants to make it easy for customers to get all the content they want.

Will this work out the opposite way? That’s not clear yet. It’s possible that one day Apple TV’s Originals will be available through Amazon Prime Video.

For now, it’s clear that Apple may be late to the streaming game but it’s attempting to offer something new. New content will be added to the service monthly and a new Apple TV app update to the current app is coming in May 2019. The Apple TV+ service isn’t coming until the fall.
