Apple is looking to bring in its own cable TV subscription offering. It would be similar to Amazon Channels, with one slight Apple-friendly twist. Is it too little too late?

Amazon Channels is a hugely successful part of Prime. Fans get to sign up directly for cable subscription packages, canceling anything they like but having their bills in one place. It’s so successful that Apple is looking to introduce its own version, but is it too little too late?

Well, that depends. While Apple is looking to offer the likes of HBO and STARZ through its Apple TV offering, the company is looking to put out a twist. Those who have Apple products, including the iPad and iPhone, will be able to get all Apple Original content for free. That cost of that will come from the cost gained from signing up to Apple’s version of Amazon Channels.

More from Amazon Channels

This could be enough to get people to sign up, especially the die-hard Apple fans. Hulu offers something similar but hasn’t quite taken off in the way that Amazon Channels has. To be honest, it just doesn’t offer anything different to Amazon Channels except for Hulu content instead of Prime Originals. By offering Apple Originals for free, this could certainly push people with Apple devices into the Channels.

According to Cord Cutters Newsit’s possible that Apple is even looking to Netflix to offer something even bigger and better. It would add Netflix into the list of Channels, so you get your subscription but you pay it all in one place, through your iTunes account. It could certainly be viable for fans, but the question is whether Netflix would want to do something like that.

It could all just be a pipe dream. Right now, some of the information is based on leaks, but it does sound like Apple is considering something similar to Amazon Channels.
