Stephen King adaptations are always in the works and Amazon plans to move forward with The Dark Tower. What should we expect from the show?

The Dark Tower is a sprawling epic from Stephen King that had thousands of pages of content. To accurately tackle an adaptation requires many more hours than one movie can contain. That’s why when The Dark Tower hit theaters, fans and critics weren’t too fond of it.

Amazon has a chance to remedy the movie’s downfall by making a television series instead. The first season will reportedly be 13 episodes and production begins in Croatia in April. That Hashtag Show also revealed that they’re looking for their cast at the moment.

With a lot of this series still being a work-in-progress, it felt like a good time to set some expectations. We don’t know how the first season will do and if Amazon will produce more season, and I imagine we won’t know that for a while. So, just going off of the report of a 13-episode season, that’s already much more time than we were given with the movie.

As a Stephen King fan and the host of Chat Sematary, I’m really just along for the ride when it comes to the adaptations. However, I do hope this is able to tell the story better because of having more time to work with. I expect that more of the small details from the books will shine, instead of feeling like there is too much story crammed in. There is a reason that King took thousands of pages to tell this story.

We’ve seen what Amazon can do with alternate worlds in shows like The Man in the High Castle, so on a visual level. I hope that the graphics are up to par with that. The universe that King has built up has a lot going for it and this show can succeed if it works with that in a compelling way.

Can every little detail be in the show? Not at all, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get a good adaptation out of it.

With details being so sparse, it’s hard to have many expectations beyond that. Hopefully, as April approaches, we’ll see more news circulate about the show.
