Amazon Prime could get a little more Half-Empty, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Cazzie David has landed a pilot order for the comedy.

Cazzie David has just been given the green light by Amazon for her comedy Half-Empty. The single-camera comedy will star and be written by the 24-year-old, who is mostly known for her social media platform.

David will also executive produce the series with Elisa Kalani, with Girls‘ Sarah Heyward serving as showrunner and Augustine Frizzell set to executive produce and direct the pilot. The project was picked up by Amazon last year but has only just landed the pilot order.

Very little is known about Half-Empty but David will play a college student with an overactive imagination. As you would expect from a comedy, that overactive imagination leads to a number of social disasters. Those who loved Larry David’s (Cazzie’s father) Curb Your Enthusiasm may find a gem in this series, as Deadline states there’s a tone of Larry’s persona.

It’s pilot season for many networks and that includes Amazon Prime Video. Half-Empty is joining People Just Do Nothing and a Catalina Aguilar Mastretta bi-lingual as comedy pilots right now.

There is plenty of excitement around the project. When it was first announced in March 2018, multiple companies were bidding for the series just based on a spec script. Amazon was the company to land the project but it’s taken until now to land the pilot order.

Arguably, this will be the right time. While Amazon has been focusing on its hour-long dramas and comedies, there is a need for more half-hour content. Prime Video drops most of its shows in one go (the odd exceptions are released weekly) and half-hour comedies make the perfect binge.
