The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 2, Episode 5 recap: Who learns Midge’s secret?

Someone learns Midge is a comic in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 2, Episode 5. She also has the biggest gig of her career so far.

It’s time for someone to learn the truth about Midge’s secret life when she heads back to New York for work. Meanwhile, Joel’s parents attempt to get him to move on. Here’s everything that happened in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 2, Episode 5.

The episode opens with the Maisels making it to the holiday camp. Yes, it’s as tiresome as it sounds. Between them meddling in Joel’s life and annoying Abe and Rose, it’s clear they’re not exactly wanted but they never realize that.

However, that’s just a minor storyline that links to the end. The more important storyline is Midge, who finally lets out her secret. It’s all about her careers. And yes, I say careers. Plural.

For Midge, it all starts when she gets the offer to be on the Revlon counter at B. Altman’s. She just has to get to work by 3 p.m. and the only person heading to New York is Benjamin, the doc. That gives them time to get to know each other and before you know it they’re on a date, which involves heading to Lenny’s show, who thinks Benjamin is gorgeous. Yeah, he is but a little stuck in the mud at times.

While at the diner, Benjamin suggests they go out for dinner at somewhere fancy another night. Midge comes out with the fact that she’s a comic. She wants him to know that before they go any further and he seems to like it. He decides to gloss over the outburst and moves back onto what’s good (or not) on the menu.

We don’t get more of this relationship yet as Susie has a gig back at the camp. It’s Midge’s biggest gig of her career so far. Just as she starts her act, she sees her father (who has retreated to this place for dinner to avoid the Maisels) in the audience. He’s not impressed with her act, but Midge can’t just stop. The nerves of her father seeing her make her act hilarious and the manager of the club wants to book her again.

It should all be good news, except Abe is now backstage and clearly furious. The last we see, he takes Midge and Susie back to the cottage. Uh oh!
