Midge tries to get her makeup counter job back in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 2, Episode 3. Meanwhile, Joel and his family apply for a loan.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 2, Episode 3 picks up with Esther saying her first word. In typical Mrs. Maisel fashion, there isn’t much time spent on it. A quick “well done” and we’re onto the main focus of the episode.
Midge proves she’s best on the makeup counter, while the Maisels attempt to get a loan. Abe and Rose start their days at university together. Then there’s Susie, who has found a way to live in her apartment building without Harry’s goons finding her.

While working on the phones, Midge is asked to go to the first floor. She’s sure it means she’s heading back to the makeup stalls but it turns out she’s wanted in the coat check. This does mean she gets to speak to her makeup girlfriends and finds out that one of them is planning her own wedding.
You guessed it, Midge isn’t letting that happen so she helps with the planning. This does mean Mary is able to get the Window Room instead of the Punishment Room (yes, the Punishment Room). While also on the makeup floor, she proves that is her calling. Will someone finally put her back on the right floor?
At the wedding, Mary accidentally throws Midge the room, where she starts a comedy routine. Unfortunately, it all falls flat to the point where she questions why Mary is getting married after three months knowing Bill. Yes, it is a shotgun wedding.
More importantly, Midge realizes that she doesn’t have a filter anymore. It’s a problem socially. And it certainly is since she’s now lost her friend and her position in the coat room. At the end of the episode, she’s back on the phones.
Joel attempts to get a loan
For Joel and his family, it’s time to get a bank loan so they can buy the building. It’s not good, though. “Too many mitigating factors” prevent them from getting the loan, but fortunately, Joel’s friend Archie (who Momma Maisel is sure is Joel’s boyfriend) is able to get him the loan.
One thing Joel does get is a lot of treasure maps for where the family money is hidden. Yes, treasure maps. Joel’s family is crazy, so crazy that Papa Maisel has a portable rotary saw to cut into the Weissman’s walls and hide $2,000.
Another map is for the factory building. When Midge delivers the money from the closet, she helps to find the next selection of money. It leads them to a room in the back that has been used for storage. Joel has found his new place.
Rose almost gets kicked out of university
Rose has started attending the art classes and is making friends. When one of her assessments is to draw a nude model, she gets a bit of a fright but got into the class. This opens Rose up to chatting to the women in the class.
She brings up the fact that there’s nothing to do after finishing the masters degree in art. That leads to the girls wanting to quit or move into the Business School. When Rose is threatened with being kicked out of the class, Rose brings up the fact that the university is taking money but giving the girls nothing.
Abe ends up on his wife’s side, which helps to keep Rose in the class. Plus, it keeps Rose in New York instead of Paris. Poor, Simon, who doesn’t get a word in edgewise.
Susie has a breakdown
After getting a phone bill for $46 and seeing Harry at the diner, she has a breakdown about the full situation. Midge is a success in many of the clubs, but Susie is still blacklisted from the bigger clubs and that means little money from the gigs.
Needing some cash, she decides to sell her vinyls. While at the record store, she comes across the recording of Midge’s first performance. It’s time to get what she’s owed!
