3. Season 6: The One Where Ross Got High
I know this is a favorite for many, but there are two more that stand out for me. However, this is definitely the one to kick off my top three Friends Thanksgiving episodes. It has the perfect mixture of family dynamics and moments, friends’ connections, and humor.
Let’s just start with the reason for the title! Ross and Monica’s parents are over for Thanksgiving dinner. It’s the first time the two have done Thanksgiving with the group of friends. If only that was the only major step. This is also Monica and Chandler’s first Thanksgiving together as a couple in their apartment.

Of course, Monica doesn’t want her parents knowing that she and Chandler are together given the fact that her parents don’t like him. Why don’t they like him? It’s all linked to a story Ross told while at college, something that Chandler has helped cover up for years.
And then there’s Rachel’s storyline. She tries to make a traditional British dessert and it goes horribly wrong.
2. Season 9: The One With Rachel’s Other Sister
Seeing Rachel’s sisters show up is always fun. They’re all as ditzy and superficial as Rachel was at the very start, unable to survive on their own. And each sister brings in the chance to have another fun guest appearance from an excellent actress. We get Reese Witherspoon, Julie Benz, and in this Thanksgiving episode, Christina Applegate.
While this isn’t a favorite for many, it does deserve to be at the top of the list. Applegate’s performance in this particular episode landed her a well-deserved Emmy win.
It brought up the over-the-top dysfunctional family with a twist. Amy was totally in love with her baby niece and made it extremely clear that she’d be the one to care for Emma when Rachel and Ross died.
Let’s not also forget that Amy managed to insult every single person at Thanksgiving dinner. It takes a lot for that to happen, especially Joey, who sees most insults go over his head.
