The Purge TV series has now officially ended. Just ahead of the finale, The Purge Season 2 was confirmed. Will this be an anthology or a continuation with the same characters?

The Purge Season 2 is officially happening. Ahead of the finale last night, which you can now watch on Amazon Prime in various parts of the world, USA Network opted to renew the series. Now there are questions about what will happen for the second season.

There are two ways that The Purge writers and Blumhouse Productions could play this. They could opt for the American Horror Story style anthology. Each year, the same actors play different roles, with some seasons crossing over now and then. Alternatively, we could follow the same characters again.

There are pros and cons to both options. Considering the movies, following a new group of people would be the norm. Now and then, we’ve seen characters we recognize from previous movies pop up as a way to connect the odd storylines. However, the anthology set up has worked well for the movie franchise.

This could continue for the series. We’re used to following different characters and getting to know the individuals again. Plus, we get to see how people from different walks of life react. In the first movie, we saw it from the point of view of one family inside the house, while the second movie took us on the streets.

Because The Purge TV series had more time to develop the characters and storylines, we have had the opportunity to see the different types of characters and their reasons for purging (or not purging). There was also more time to explore these characters, giving us more connections to who they are and why they did what they did.

A second season focusing on them again could be welcomed. Fans will want to know whether Purge Night did make its way to Europe and how Jenna would react to that. There are questions about Miguel and Penelope moving forward after dealing with the cult and Joe.

One of the issues with The Purge Season 2 focusing on them is they would need to connect again. It doesn’t make much sense to bring Jenna back to the States now that she has her baby. It would be easier to create an anthology series, bringing a new storyline in a different Purge Night. Whether the actors would come back to play those different characters or not would be something for Blumhouse and the actors to discuss.
