The Boys: Antony Starr and Chace Crawford talk the superheros on the series

Antony Starr and Chace Crawford will play two of the superheroes on Amazon’s The Boys. They discuss the darkness of the show and getting excited for the series.

While The Boys is named for the vigilantes of the series, there are certainly some superheroes to look out for. Antony Starr and Chace Crawford are two of those superheroes. What was casting like and what’s this dark tone going to be like for the series?

The two weren’t cast until December and they would need to start filming in May. That was something Chace wasn’t sure would happen, but he was shocked to see how the casting worked out. Everyone, especially the superheroes of the series, was cast extremely quickly.

Antony shared his initial thoughts on the series. Hint: he wasn’t that interested in it at first and the story of getting cast is certainly entertaining. It was only when he started getting the costume together that he felt connected to the role.

The Boys comic series is certainly dark in tone. There are a lot of topics such as rape, hedonism, and drug abuse that come into play. The superheroes are viewed as the privilege, which will connect to many in today’s current political and social climate. These are subjects that will make a lot of viewers uncomfortable, so did they affect the actors from taking their roles?

Antony started the answer on this question, explaining some of the differences between the comic series and what the Amazon TV series will be like. Some of the edges have been removed, but there will still be some of the tone. This continues to help it to stand out against all the other superhero shows out there.

This is a series that isn’t afraid to be dark and real. While some of the themes are pulled back, they’re not pulled away to be turned into a Disney movie.
