Amazon Studios orders A Wheel of Time fantasy series
A Wheel of Time has been ordered to series by Amazon Studios. Based on the novel of the same name, here’s what we can expect from the new Prime Original.
As I’ve mentioned in the past, Amazon is really stepping up on the Prime Originals. During a London press, the studio ordered A Wheel of Time to series. Based on the novel of the same name by Robert Jordan, the one-hour fantasy drama is set to draw you in.
The novel is part of a series that has sold more than 90 million copies around the world. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D showrunner Rafe Judkins will serve as EP and showrunner for this new series, co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon Studios. The idea is that the Prime Original will be available on Prime Video across 200 countries and territories.

Women have the keys to power in the fantasy world of A Wheel of Time, while the series draws on many Asian and European philosophies and cultures. Women are the ones that can harness the magic within the world, and the series tells the story of Moiraine, a member of the influential all-female group known as “Aes Sedai.”

Moiraine follows five men and women, believing that one of them is the reincarnation of one of the most powerful individuals the universe has ever seen. According to prophecies, this powerful being will either save humanity as we know it or completely destroy it.
The fact that women are at the core of power is one of the reasons Amazon Studios has ordered the adaptation to series. There is a call for more female-led dramas with the likes of Charmed, Supergirl, Wonder Woman, and even Captain Marvel across TV and movie screens.
This isn’t going to be an easy adaptation. There are 14 books in the series, but Amazon Studios is confident that Judkins will be able to manage it. Rick Selvage, Larry Mondragon, Ted Field, Mike Weber, and Darren Lemke will serve as executive producers and Harriet McDougal joins the team as a consulting producer.
