Is it time for Amazon to save Shadowhunters?

Shadowhunters has landed five People’s Choice Awards nominations because the fans wrote the name of the show in. This is a sign that it’s time for Amazon to #SaveShadowhunters, right?

Let me share a secret. I got into the Shadowfam late. It was only after reading some interviews from Marissa Messiano over at Hidden Remote that I realized Shadowhunters and Supernatural shared some similarities. And those similarities instantly hooked me in. And as soon as I got into the show, Netflix and Freeform chose to cancel it.

I’ve wanted someone to #SaveShadowhunters since then. While for a minority, the hope may have waned, it hasn’t for the majority. It’s amazing to see the fans rally together and they did just that when it came to People’s Choice Awards nominations.

Initially only put into the ballot for one People’s Choice Awards, fans were able to write the name of their show into others. Because of that, the show picked up five nominations. That’s four write-ins, showing the effort and love the fans have for Shadowhunters.

This tells me one thing. It’s time for someone (*cough* Amazon *cough*) to pick up Shadowhunters.

Why Amazon? Well, Netflix isn’t going to do it. If it was, it would have done it by now but it seems from early reports that Netflix was the one that initially dropped it (leading to Freeform dropping it due to financial reasons).

This is a show that needs an international company to save it. With a bigger streaming company behind it, Shadowhunters can continue to reach the ground it did with the Netflix coverage. Amazon Prime Video is the best home for the show.

It’s not like Amazon has never saved a show. Earlier this year it saved The Expanse after SYFY canceled it. Could now be the time to save another show based on fan reaction for the People Choice Awards? I certainly think so.
