Amazon renews Absentia for Season 2: When will it be released?

Absentia has officially been renewed for a second season. The Amazon Prime series is already filming Season 2, so when can we expect it to drop?

Absentia fans rejoice! Amazon has officially announced the Season 2 pickup of the series, which is already in the process of filming. Stana Katic returns as Emily, but when will the second season air on Amazon?

So far, there’s no confirmed date. Expect Absentia Season 2 in 2019 in the United States and some other areas. The UK, Australia, Germany, Itlay, and some others have been confirmed to get the second season. This isn’t just an Amazon Original, airing on other networks around the world, so not all parts of the world can watch through Prime.

Absentia has already been renewed in Canada. That happened back in June, so production work on the series wasn’t that surprising. We were just waiting for Amazon to announce it for its service in the States. However, speculation for this did start in February, shortly after the release of the first season.

As well as Katic, Patrick Heusinger is returning to the series as Special Agent Nick Durand, Emily’s ex-husband. Matthew Le Nevez and Natasha Little are joining as new cast members, although there is little information on their characters.

Le Nevez is set to play ex-Navy SEAL Cal Isaac, who is facing some similar demons to Emily and will become a loyal counterpart. Meanwhile, Little will take on the role of Special Agent Julianna Gunnersen at the Boston FBI Field Office, who is a profiler and out to protect the people after a deadly terrorist attack in the city.

For those who haven’t heard of Absentia yet, it’s a must watch Prime Original! The series focuses on Emily, who disappeared while on the hunt for a notorious serial killer. Missing for six years, she’s presumed dead but suddenly found with no memory of what happened to her. She returns to find her husband has remarried and this other woman is raising her son.

Emily has to find her way in a world that has moved on from her. But at the same time, she needs to uncover the events that happened to her throughout the last six years and the conspiracy that puts her whole family at risk.

Since the first season dropped in February 2018, we can expect Absentia Season 2 around the same time. There seems to be a 12-14 month gap between most Prime Originals (we’re not counting The Man in the High Castle in this!) so hopefully, it will be out by April 2019.
