Amazon is certainly ramping up the promotion for the Tom Clancy novel adaptation. In the latest Jack Ryan featurette, the showrunners, Pierce, and John Krasinski discuss the latest adaptation. If you’ve read the novels and watched the previous novels, don’t expect much of the same.

This is a modern adaptation, pulling us into the origin story of “America’s James Bond.” We’ll see him as the desk jockey, who is smart enough to figure out a major terrorist plot that leads him into the field. Plus, we’ll see that relationship with Pierce’s James Greer form and grow.

But what makes Krasinski the best addition to the series? Why is he the perfect lead?

One thing that he offers is some connection to the audience. The actor is an everyday man. While he may be suited for the role of a CIA agent on location, there’s still the humorous quality that many will remember from his time on The Office. This is a guy that people can imagine being and that helps make the series more realistic.

There’s no denying that Jack Ryan showrunners are aiming for authenticity. The featurette released last week took us behind the scenes to see the tactical support; the men and women who helped make sure this show looked realistic. We have real weapons firing blanks, phones and computers that the CIA would really use, and tactical missions that play out as they would in real life.

This is a show that Amazon wants you to watch and it wants you to like. The featurettes prove that. If you had any doubt about John Krasinski in the role (I know my husband does after watching him in The Office), this Jack Ryan featurette is something you need to see to set your mind at ease.
