Amazon removing ad-free Twitch: Will it still be worth the money?
Amazon Prime members currently get access to ad-free Twitch. The ad-free service is disappearing next month, but will it still be worth the money?
It was a sad day in the news yesterday for Twitch Prime users. Amazon announced the removal of the ad-free Twitch service for Prime members, which has been included since the service was added two years ago. Does this mean the service is no longer worth the money?
Well, that depends on what you want to gain from Twitch. Granted, ad-free is always a positive. I pay for Spotify premium just to get the ad-free option (plus the ability to download and listen on the go) so I’m naturally more inclined to pay to remove the ads. Ads can be intrusive and annoying. I hate the ones that jump up in the middle of a video (yes, Facebook, I’m looking at you).
However, Twitch Prime offers far more than ad-free viewing. You get access to free games, in-game loot, and so much more.

Okay, the news came at a bad time. Amazon has also stopped offering the cheaper pre-order prices for games but it’s still not the end of the world.
It’s worth remembering that this will be a business decision for Twitch too. At the moment, Twitch on its own is $4.99 per month, according to The Verge. You can get that for free with your Prime membership. Twitch was losing out by offering the ad-free option for free to Prime users.
If you want the ad-free option then you can get it through Twitch for $8.99 per month. Those who love ad-free services often find the benefit in paying extra. You’ll need to get the Twitch Turbo plan.

As for the Amazon Prime membership, Twitch is just a small part of it. You still get access to free one-day shipping, Amazon Video, Amazon Channels (of course, each channel costs extra but the option to add them on is there), Music, Photo Storage, and the Whole Foods offers. Overall, the cost of Prime, which is $12.99 per month or $119 per year, is still beneficial.
Twitch Prime will become ad-supported from Sept. 14 for new members and Oct. 15 for current Prime members who have already connected their Prime and Twitch accounts.
