The 2017 Emmy nominees were announced, and Amazon racked up 16 nominations, including five for their hit series Transparent!

Amazon picked up 16 Emmy nominations when the nominees were announced in Los Angeles on Thursday, July 13, according Variety.

Transparent walked away with the most Emmy nominations for Amazon with seven, including three in major acting categories. Jeffrey Tambor, an absolute lock every year, was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his role in Transparent. Tambor should be considered the favorite in the category.

Judith Light and Kathryn Hahn also of Transparent were nominated for the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. It will be interesting to see if either will walk away with the award. Light and Hahn were each so good in the last season the series, and I think they each have a decent chance. It’s tough to go up against Veep and Anna Chlumsky, and of course, Kate McKinnon of Saturday Night Live. McKinnon won the award last year.

To round out the major category nominations, Carrie Fisher received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in the hit series Catastrophe starring Rob Delaney and Sharon Horgan. Fisher passed away earlier this year. If you have not seen her in Catastrophe, we highly recommend watching the series. Fisher is so good in the series, and it’s just a great show, overall.

I do have to say that this is a bit of a disappointing run at the Emmys for Amazon. While they locked down nominations in a few major acting categories, they were not nominated in any of the best show categories. That’s a bit unfortunate when looking at how well Netflix did in those categories.

Mozart in the Jungle was also nominated for three 2017 Emmys, but none in the key categories. The Man in the High Castle also locked up four nominations in technical categories including a nomination for Outstanding Visual Effects.
