50 Best TV Shows on Amazon Prime Video: April 2017 update
Updated ranking of the 50 best TV shows on Amazon Prime Video to watch in April, including new seasons of Bosch, Fortitude and Catastrophe.
April is a marquee month for new releases on Amazon Prime Video. While the movie side sees the addition of The Handmaiden and classic movies like Tommy Boy, There Will Be Blood and Almost Famous, among others. The TV side sees new seasons from some of the best Amazon Original shows they have to offer.
The first seasons of Tumble Leaf and American Playboy are already available to download and stream. American Playboy is a fun documentary looking at the life of Hugh Hefner. A show like this is long overdue and makes for an interesting look at the founder of Playboy.

Those are almost like the appetizers to the main courses arriving in the middle and end of the month. Fortitude season 2 arrived on April 14 and marks the first season the show was billed as an Amazon Original. The crime thriller stars Dennis Quaid as the biggest actor American viewers will recognize.

The show is set in the Arctic Circle where violent crime doesn’t exist. Until strange concurrences begin to happen and violent crimes become the norm. This is a great binge-watch because you can’t turn the TV off after one episode.
Also coming out in April is the third season of Amazon Original series Bosch, starring Titus Welliver. The first two seasons of the crime drama has proven to be some of the best programming Amazon has to offer Prime members. Jamie Hector, Amy Aquino and Lance Reddick also star in the series.
The best comedy TV shows coming to Prime this month is the third season of Catastrophe, starring Rob Delaney and Sharon Horgan. This is easily my favorite comedy on Prime and one of the best comedies currently in production. It’s a must-watch and I’d recommend binge-watching all six episodes in one sitting. I can’t get enough of this show and I wish the seasons were 26 episodes long. You’ll likely be in the mood for a laugh if you watch Fortitude and Bosch in the weeks ahead considering their heavy subject matter.
The end of the month sees the first season of Animal Kingdom arrive on April 30, and that is another show that will make a great case to join Catastrophe and Bosch on our ranking of the 50 best TV shows on Amazon Prime.
