Amazon will stream the NFL’s Thursday Night Football games for the 2017 season! You must be an Amazon Prime member to watch.

Amazon has become the NFL’s streaming service for the 2017 NFL season! According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, Amazon and the NFL agreed to a deal over the streaming rights to ten Thursday Night Football games for the 2017 season.

WSJ is reporting the streaming rights to the ten games cost Amazon $50 million. Last year, Twitter paid $10 million to stream ten Thursday night games, so it’s obvious why the NFL chose Amazon’s $50 million bid.

According to the report, you must be an Amazon Prime member to watch the games on the streaming service. You can still watch the games on CBS and NBC with your cable subscription, though. It’s not like these games won’t be on TV too.

It will be really interesting to see how this changes the streaming game over the next few years. Amazon seems to be differentiating itself from Netflix and moving into the lane that Hulu is trying to occupy.

Obviously, this is great news for Amazon Prime members. They are the only ones who will get to watch these games with their Amazon Prime memberships. This could be a game-changer for Amazon and other streaming networks moving forward.

I do have some questions about this, though. Mainly, how many people with Amazon Prime memberships don’t have a cable or satellite subscription? How many of those people don’t already have another way to watch football games online? That’s the market that Amazon is going after with this deal, and I tend to think it is not that big.

If the people at Amazon are willing to spend $50 million to make this happen, you have to think they know this will benefit Amazon in the long run and get people to sign up for Prime memberships.

We will let you know more about the deal when we find out! Stay tuned for the NFL’s Thursday Night Football games on Amazon Prime Video later this year!
