It’s Amazon Pilot Season and The New V.I.P.’s is in the running for a full season. Will the animated comedy get picked up?

Amazon Pilot Season is a fun time for Amazon Prime Video subscribers because it allows them to feel like a studio executive for a minute with a chance to weigh in on the fate of a prospective show. Amazon released five pilots on March 17 and they are all looking for a full season order and a survey is available for viewers to provide their thoughts and opinions on the show that will then be used to factor into the decision whether to pick it up or not.

The New V.I.P.’s is one of those vying for a renewal and the animated workplace comedy comes from creator Steve Dildarian (The Life & Times of Tim) and director Mark Brooks. Ben Schwartz, Matt Braughner, Missi Pyle, Kerri Kenney, Jonathan Adams, Creed Bratton, Jason Mantzoukas and Rory Scovel headline the cast. The cast was what initially had piqued my interest in the show.

Here’s how Amazon describes the series:

"Four low level employees seize control of a major corporation after accidentally murdering the CEO."

Sounds like a pretty good jumping off point for a silly animated comedy, right?

First off, I’ll say the humor won’t be for all audiences, but that can likely be said for every comedy ever made, but the style and adult humor in the pilot may turn some people off if you don’t mind a little animated nudity and penis jokes with your shows.

If you’re a fan of Archer, the shows on Adult Swim and The Life & Times of Tim, I think you’d really enjoy the pilot.

It wasn’t what I’d call a perfect pilot, but I thought the cast showed more than enough to hold it together and I really hope it gets picked up for a full season. It’s tough to make sweeping declarations after a single episode but this is the type of show that Amazon needs to have available for their consumers. There just aren’t enough comedies available on Prime, certainly not animated ones.

I hope The New V.I.P.’s gets picked, but what do you think? Let us know your thoughts on the pilot and whether you want a full season or not.
