Prime Video sets a premiere date for American Rust Season 2
It was back in January 2022 that American Rust fans learned that SHOWTIME had canceled the series after one season. It took almost half a year for Amazon to save the show.
Freevee originally saved it, but now the series is heading to Prime Video. It’s also getting a new title. The second season will now be known as American Rust: Broken Justice. It makes sense to rename it slightly as it moves to a new platform.
The great news is that two years after its cancellation, it finally has a premiere date. Fans will be able to watch all 10 episodes of American Rust Season 2 on Thursday, March 28.
American Rust Season 2 adds eight to the cast
As well as sharing the premiere date, Deadline confirmed that there are eight cast members joining the Jeff Daniels series. We don’t have many details of their characters, though.
We’ll get to see the following join the cast:
- Luna Lauren Velez as Detective Angela Burgos
- Marc Menchaca as Vic Walker
- Nick Sandow as Mike Orr
- Britain Seibert as Cynthia Frazier
- Christopher Denham as Russell Wolff
- Amelia Workman as Rinna Bransford
- Leon Addison Brown as Chief Bolt
- Sara Lindsey as Maya Park
It is an intriguing decision to move the series to Prime Video. After all, it was Freevee that saved the show. Freevee is owned by Amazon and we see Freevee shows go to Prime Video outside of the U.S. and UK, but it’s not common for Freevee shows to make the move to Prime Video in those two locations. Is this a sign of things to come?
This is timed with Amazon putting ads on the basic Prime Video subscription. Freevee is already ad-supported, so Amazon may make a move in putting more content on Prime Video to get the ad revenue and the subscription fees.
American Rust: Broken Justice is coming to Prime Video on Thursday, March 28.
