Amazon has two streaming platforms, Prime Video and Freevee. What’s the difference between the two of them, and can you get both in the same place?
Amazon continues to grow in the offerings it has. You can shop with free shipping, you can get music, listen to books via Audible, and you can even read books on Kindle Unlimited. Then, of course, you can watch TV shows and movies.
Something you’ll notice is that shows and movies come up on Prime Video and Freevee. Some start out on Prime Video and then have a sequel spin-off on Freevee. Yes Bosch, we’re looking at you!
Now you’ll want to know the difference between them. It’s really all about price.
Freevee vs. Prime Video: Which one is better?
Both Amazon streamers are important. They have their own content and their own originals. You won’t find Prime Video originals on Freevee and vice versa. At least, not in the U.S. or the UK. You will find the Freevee content on the other Amazon site in other parts of the world as Freevee isn’t a global one just yet.
The difference is price. Freevee was originally called IMDb TV. It’s Amazon’s free streaming platform. How is it free when it has original content? It’s ad-supported. It’s one of those FAST platforms that you’ll hear a little bit about since Max removed a bunch of content. Think of it as Amazon’s version of Tubi and Pluto TV.
It is not part of an Amazon Prime membership because, well, free and ad-supported. You can sign up for an account easily.
Prime Video, on the other hand, costs a monthly subscription. Or you can get Amazon Prime for a year to save a little bit—you’ll pay for 10 months instead of 12 when you look at the price differences. You can’t get any of the Video stuff on Freevee because, well, you’re not paying for it on Freevee.
