5 canceled shows from 2024 that Amazon should save (although it's unlikely)
Every year, we say goodbye to TV shows. Some cancellations hurt more than others, and we would love for Amazon to step in to save them.
We have to be realistic with this list. There are slim chances that Amazon will step in to save these shows. That is partly due to the shows not being shopped around, and partly due to the shows not necessarily working for the types of shows Prime Video tends to have. That doesn’t stop us from dreaming, though.
We’re taking a look at the five shows canceled in 2024 that we would love to see Amazon step in to save.
NCIS: Hawaii
Let’s start with a series that was canceled for a ridiculous reason. This wasn’t to do with the lack of viewers. This was everything to do with studios potentially being sold and a decision to move a streaming series to the broadcast cycle, taking up the space that this series could have arguably had.
NCIS: Hawaii is needed. It’s one of the most progressive shows that’s still well-written and brings us some great crimes to see the team solve. We have a woman in charge who is skilled, tough, and fair. We have men who prove what it takes to be real men. Then there’s the lesbian couple that is realistic, grounded, and supportive. Why aren’t there more shows that are this inclusive?
I’ve written a whole list about why this series needs to be saved. Amazon, listen up!
Station 19
Another broadcast show that was canceled that needs to be saved was Station 19. Technically, the show was given a final season order in 2023, but it airs its final episodes this year. And there is a fight to save it.
The Grey’s Anatomy spin-off is more than just a firefighter drama. It brings us some compelling social topics to our screen, including systemic racism and the growing issue of incels and white nationalists in the country. We have a huge cast of diverse characters who deserve to have their stories told. The best thing is they are all flawed, and sometimes, you’re going to hate them, but they also have the opportunity to grow.
Quantum Leap
NBC made the decision not to go ahead with a third season of another time travel drama. Honestly, I felt like it was Timeless all over again. Quantum Leap’s revival honored the original series but brought some fresh lore mixed with the way the computer code was changed.
The second season finale ended with a huge cliffhanger. Now we have two characters stuck in the leap, and we just need to see what happens next. It’s also another show packed with inclusivity. What is with the networks canceling diverse shows this year?
Our Flag Means Death
Not all 2024 cancellations have been broadcast shows. Some of the streamers have canceled shows. This does make them a little harder to be saved, but that doesn’t mean we have to sit back and just watch them get cancecled. Our Flag Means Death is one that we would love to see more of.
This is another inclusive show that is full of queer representation. At a time when we need more of it, we’re getting less, and we’re not happy. Compared to the other two shows, this was fun and goofy, bringing a slightly different style—sometimes, we just need fun!
Uncoupled
Netflix originally canceled Uncoupled but it was saved by Showtime. Then Showtime decided not to move forward with it after all. Amazon, it’s time to step in. This is another show with queer representation that can’t be skipped over.
Neil Patrick Harris thinks he’s in a stable and loving relationship. Then his partner of 17 years just walks out on him. He has to figure out life as a single man, and things have changed a lot in the last 17 years. Is there hope for love again? Now we’ll never know. The series was funny and meaningful at the same time. It's what we need more of on screens.
