Amazon is bringing us a Young Sherlock series, and here's what we know so far

You know of Sherlock Holmes. The fictional private detective has had many portrayals over the years. It’s time for Amazon to bring us another one. This time, we’re getting Young Sherlock.

Amazon announced the project on Wednesday, May 29. It came with a little bit of information, including the fact that it’s inspired by the Young Sherlock Holmes books by Andy Lane. Of course, those books are inspired by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s novels.

What do we know about the series so far?

Hero Fiennes Tiffin will play the titular role

You’ll know him as a young Tom Riddle, or maybe you know him best as Hardin from the After movies. Those who have seen The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare will have also seen him take on the role of Henry Hayes in that.

One thing is certain, Fiennes Tiffin can act. He can take on many different styles of roles, and it’s time to see him in this iconic one.

Hero Fiennes Tiffin will take on the role of Sherlock Holmes. He is 19 at this point in the story, and fans have pointed out that Fiennes Tiffin is 26. Of course, this is not the first time someone in their 20s has played a teen.

When does Young Sherlock take place?

As mentioned, Sherlock is 19 at the point in the story. He is disgraced and unformed, not yet the man that we come to know him as. He has zero discipline, but that doesn’t stop him from delving into his first murder mystery.

We find him at Oxford University, where a murder mystery threatens his freedom. Arguably, it gives him his freedom as he ends up on a globe-trotting mystery to uncover the conspiracy that is about to change his life and set him out on a path he didn’t initially consider.

How many episodes will be in the Sherlock series?

Amazon has confirmed that there will be eight episodes to the season, according to Deadline. This has become pretty standard for an Amazon series now.

Will it all be released at once? That’s still to be seen. It could be based on one thing: the director.

Guy Ritchie and Hero Fiennes Tiffin reunite

Guy Ritchie is the man behind Young Sherlock for the streamer. This will reunite director and actor. They worked together on The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.

With Ritchie’s style of directing, it could be worth Amazon dropping the entire season at once. Think of the way The Gentleman became such a huge binge-watch for Netflix.
