Why did Amazon cancel Paper Girls?

Amazon made the decision to cancel Paper Girls after just one season. Why did this happen? Here’s a look at the most likely reason.

We got some disappointing news recently. Paper Girls Season 2 is not going to happen. Amazon canceled the series after just one season, and nobody is happy about that decision.

This was a great series for sci-fi fans. It also brought us a wonderful coming-of-age storyline, with four 12-year-olds figuring out life while they also try to save themselves and the world as they know it. There was a lot riding on them, and now we’re left with a major cliffhanger.

Two of the girls have ended up in what looks like the 1950s. The other two? Well, we have no idea where they’ve gone. All we know is that they’re somewhere within space and time. And that’s the way it will always be for this series.

Why was Paper Girls canceled by Amazon?

What was the reason behind the cancellation? It looks like it all comes down to viewership. Not enough people watched it as soon as it came out. This could have been linked to some bad timing. Stranger Things Season 4, Part 2 had just been released at the beginning of the month that Paper Girls came out.

It could have also been linked to the lack of promotion. This is something Amazon is really struggling with as of late. The Lord of the Rings and The Boys get a large amount of promotion between seasons and in the run up to episodes. Yet, other shows don’t get the same treatment. There would have been a lot of people who missed out on Paper Girls in time because they didn’t realize it was on the streamer.

The same happened to fellow sci-fi series Night Sky. Amazon needs to do better when it comes to supporting its content. It’s not like it has a lot of content like Netflix to worry about. It could opt for a huge push for each show being released.

There is a fight to find the series a new home. This is much harder with streaming shows than it is with broadcast shows due to the series already having a global push. However, we’re holding out some hope that this and The Wilds will be saved by someone.
