Will Paper Girls be renewed for Season 2?

Paper Girls Season 1 is now available to stream on Prime Video. Will Amazon cancel or renew the series for Season 2? Here’s a look at the chances.

Amazon isn’t consistent with the way it renews shows. There are some that get early renewals, even before the first season has even dropped. Just look at The Summer I Turned Pretty, The Wheel of Time, and The Lord of the Rings. Then there are others that take months for an update, even after successful seasons. I mean, we’re still waiting on a decision for The Wilds and Outer Range at the time of writing this.

Paper Girls hasn’t been renewed yet, but it also hasn’t been cancelled. It did only drop on Prime Video yesterday, Friday, July 29. It is still early days for the series. However, what are the chances of it landing a second season?

There is source material for Paper Girls Season 2

One thing to note is that the series wasn’t billed as a limited series. Nor did it end with everything neatly wrapped up in a bow. There is room for more content, and there is even source material to support that.

Paper Girls is based on a graphic novel. The first season has pretty much covered the first novel, and now it’s time to see what’s next for the series.

Of course, having more source material doesn’t guarantee a renewal. SYFY didn’t renewed Deadly Class despite there being plenty more source material in the graphic novels. Yes, I’m still salty about that series being cancelled.

It’s all going to depend on views. Amazon is trying to get into the YA sphere, but it hasn’t been all that successful. Panic and I Know What You Did Last Summer both failed to impress. As noted, we’re still waiting on a decision about The Wilds, which does have a social media following and has received positive reviews. Has Paper Girls been able to find its audience? We’ll have to wait some time to find out what Amazon decides.

Most of the time, we know within a couple of months if a show is going to be renewed. If the renewal doesn’t come through by then, we start to get worried but it doesn’t guarantee a cancellation. Remember Hunters was renewed six months after the first season arrived on Prime Video. We would just like a renewal sooner rather than later.
