Sound of Metal is one of the must-see movies on Amazon this weekend

The one good thing about the first weekend of the month is there’s always a bunch of great movies free with Prime Video. All the must-see movies on Amazon this weekend are available with the subscription you already have. There’s no need to turn to Amazon Channels if you don’t want to.

There are some notable mentions on Amazon Channels, though. The 1994 movie The Crow and its sequels are on HBO; The Mask of Zorro is on STARZ if you want a good laugh; The Turning is now on SHOWTIME.

But what about Amazon Prime Video? Here are five must-see movies on Amazon this weekend.

Sound of Metal

We’ll start with the Amazon Original that just recently dropped. Sound of Metal is about a drummer of a heavy metal band. When he starts to lose his hearing, he fears the worst. But he just doesn’t want to give up what he’s good at; what he loves.

However, his girlfriend is worried he’ll turn back to drugs to cope. To help, she finds him a sober house for the deaf, where Ruben has a chance to relearn all about sound. It’s an inspiring movie based on some elements of truth.

Harold and Kumar movies

Okay, so these are actually two must-see movies on Amazon. If you’re looking for a bit of comedy, Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle and Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay are now both streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

They’re over the top comedies. They do make light of some serious problems. However, they’re all for a bit of fun and by two actors who do take the situations seriously in real life.

The Pursuit of Happyness

Next up is something a little more serious. The Pursuit of Happyness was one of the must-see movies on Amazon in December because of how heartfelt it is. It focuses on a single father raising his son in poverty.

He wants the best for his son, which means he takes an unpaid internship in the hope of a better job. The two go on a journey to find out what it really means to be happy.

The King’s Speech

For those who want movies based on historical events, turn your attention to The King’s Speech. Colin Firth plays King George VI, who actually starts out as Bertie, the Duke of York. When his brother abdicated the throne, George becomes King of Great Britain. The problem is he struggles with speaking due to a serious stutter.

We watch as George learns to speak loudly and clearly. With the support of his wife and a speech therapist with some crazy ideas, he gains confidence and delivers a speech of a lifetime.

The Hurt Locker

Finally, it’s a movie for those who love military movies. The Hurt Locker stars Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie, and Brian Geraghty. Renner is Sergeant William James, who has to train a bomb disposal team during the Iraq War. His reckless attitude and some of his ideologies cause concern.

The team has to stick together. One wrong move and they could see their lives end in the blink of an eye. How will they cope with a reckless sergeant?
