The Stand will premiere at the end of the year on CBS All Access

When we learned The Stand by Stephen King was getting another adaptation, we were a little on the fence. Nothing can replace the Gary Sinise series.

However, we’re on the side of excited now, especially since The Stand premiere date has been confirmed. It will premiere on CBS All Access on Dec. 17 and then get a weekly release after that, according to TVLine. There are nine episodes, so there will be nine weeks of new content on their way.

It’s certainly going to be an interesting way to see out 2020. It’s been the year of the pandemic, disasters, and protests. The Stand is all about the superflu that wipes out the majority of the human race. There’s no doubt that this is going to be too close to home for some right now.

What we know about The Stand miniseries

The show is being billed as a miniseries. This is important to note, as it suggests there won’t be a second season at all. Yes, we have seen some miniseries gain second seasons after the fact, but this show is purely adapting the source material. There are no plans to continue it.

After all, Stephen King is writing the ninth and final episode. He’ll include a coda that the original novel doesn’t include, which certainly makes it an even more exciting addition to all the Stephen King works out there.

Whoopi Goldberg will play Mother Abagail and Alexander Skarsgård will play Randall Flagg/The Dark Man. The two roles have to be cast just right, and I think the show has it.

James Marsden will play Stu Redman, Henry Zaga will play Nick Andros, Amber Heard is Nadine Cross, Odessa Young is Frannie Goldsmith, and Katherine McNamara will play Julie Lawry. We also now know Jovan Adepo will take on the role of Larry Underwood.

That’s all we know for now. We’ll bring more information as we have it.
