The questions for Penny Dreadful: City of Angels Season 1 finale

We knew the penultimate episode of Penny Dreadful: City of Angels was going to leave us with some questions. Some are far more burning than others, as we’re left with mixed feelings at the very end.

The Vega family came together. It looked like it would start fights, but it actually led to the family coming together in a happy way for the first time since the start of the series. However, as they all danced together and had fun, poor Diego was lynched by the cops with Lewis powerless to do anything.

Meanwhile, Councilman Townsend turned to his father (played by the late Brian Dennehy) to help that isn’t coming and Elsa continued to try to drive a wedge in the Craft family. Will Magda be successful or will humans fight against her?

Now we’re going into the finale with burning questions. Here are my top questions for the Penny Dreadful: City of Angels Season 1 finale.

Has Magda lost her grip?

When Rio saw Tiago Vega walk into the club, she had a look of concern and almost fear. The Vega family had come together. Up to this point, Mateo and Josefina had found a way to connect with Maria and there was a sense of happiness. For a moment it looked like Tiago and Molly would shatter it, but the family is as one.

And that’s not all. Alex is losing her grip on Townsend and Elsa is losing her grip on Peter Craft. Is Magda failing? If so, what does this mean?

How will everyone react to Diego’s lynching

Diego was on his way to prison. Taking the fall for all the murders, Lewis told him that he’d be viewed as a hero. The beat cops knew that and wouldn’t let it happen. They also wanted revenge. So, they prevented Lewis from stopping them and lynched Diego.

This is going to create more war in the area. The Mexicans are going to rise up. It was only a matter of time. Is this the in that Magda needed to win?

What will Elsa do next?

Elsa has tried exceptionally hard to get Peter Craft to join the full Nazi way of thinking. He is part of the Bund, but it seems like he doesn’t share all the sentiments of the party. He also doesn’t want war.

At the same time, Maria is still a loyal part of the household. No matter what Elsa does, Maria wants to protect Tom and Trevor. What will Elsa and Frank do next to terrify the children and attempt to convince Craft to give into evil?

Can we really trust the mob?

Something about the attack on Lewis and Tiago doesn’t seem right. I don’t get the sense that it was the Nazis attacking them. Part of me wondered if it was the mob since we hadn’t seen them since the first appearance.

During the Penny Dreadful: City of Angels penultimate episode, Lewis turned to the mob for help. And the mob has helped, but can we really trust them? Is this playing into the mob’s hands? And what will they ask of Lewis in return?

Is there time for the rocket storyline?

I thought there was going to be more focus on the Nazi Party during Penny Dreadful: City of Angels. Instead, it’s been one of those plotlines that comes up now and then, but never quite hits the mark.

With it being the season finale, it seems almost impossible for any time to spend on the rocket. The only think that I can think of is that Lewis and the mob have played right into the Third Reich’s hands, but then Kurt had decided against taking the mob out. It’s almost like this is going to be a plot that leads to nothing.
