Breaking down the Penny Dreadful: City of Angels Episode 8 promo and synopsis

Tiago doesn’t think that Los Angeles can be saved. Lewis wonders if there’s a chance to survive her. Many are ready for war on Penny Dreadful: City of Angels Episode 8.

It’s time to break down the promo and synopsis for the episode. This gives us a hint of the troubles the characters will face and the changing loyalties being hinted at.

"Lewis confronts Townsend (Michael Gladis) in his office and Tiago questions Adelaide (Amy Madigan), where he discovers Josefina (Jessica Garza) is now a member of the Sister Molly’s congregation. Rio implores Mateo (Johnathan Nieves) to forget his old family and embrace her and the Pachucos. Peter (Rory Kinnear) visits Linda (Piper Perabo) at the asylum, only to find her ready for war. Townsend and Kurt (Dominic Sherwood) go on a dangerous outing, while Peter Craft argues with members of the German-American Bund. In the Craft home, Frank (Santino Barnard) terrorizes Tom (Julian Hilliard) and Trevor (Hudson West) as Maria (Adriana Barraza) fights to protect them from the demonic child."

5. Lewis and Tiago take the fight to the Third Reich

Let’s just say that it’s clear Townsend and Adelaide are pretty much Nazis. They may not wear the banners, but they are consorting with them and share many of the same views. So, Lewis and Tiago taking the fight to Townsend and Adelaide means they’re taking the fight to the Third Reich in a way.

This is putting their own lives at risk, but it’s for a good reason. They want to keep their friends and family safe.

4. Maria knows the Beast is in the house

Maria didn’t recognize Elsa as Rio or as Magda during Penny Dreadful: City of Angels Episode 7. This suggests that Natalie Dormer playing all four different roles on the show is for our benefit. They all look different to the characters. I guess that sort of makes sense, but it is a little annoying.

However, Maria knows that the Beast is in the Craft household. She views young Frank as the Beast, which is a close enough guess. He is a part of Elsa, after all. So, now she’s going to focus on saving Tom and Trevor from Frank, but she’s got her work cut out for her.

3. Linda hasn’t given up the fight

We didn’t see any of Linda Craft during the previous episode, but we know she’s now in a mental asylum due to Peter’s actions. Well, just because she’s there doesn’t mean she’s given up the fight.

What happens when a woman feels like she’s lost everything? She will put in far more effort to take down the people who have wronged her. Peter and Elsa will want to watch their backs.

2. Mateo isn’t certain about the Pachucos

In the promo, we see Rio encourage Mateo to give the Pachucos hope. She’s desperate to keep Mateo on her side. However, it looks like Mateo is switching back to his family.

Two episodes ago, he chose Rio and Fly Rico. Now that Diego went down for crimes he didn’t commit, Mateo is faltering. Will he turn back to Tiago for help? Will he turn to his mother for help?

1. Tiago learns about Josefina

Up to this point, Molly knows that Josefina is Tiago’s sister. Maria and Raul know that Josefina has joined Sister Molly’s church. Everyone has kept this from Tiago at this point, but he’s about to learn the truth.

Will he see this as a betrayal on Josefina’s part? Probably not. I think he’ll understand why his sister has broken away from the Catholic faith. He’ll feel betrayed by Molly, who has known who Josefina is. He’ll also be scared for his sister knowing Adelaide is meeting with the Nazis.
