Throughout the first six episodes of Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, we’ve been introduced to the characters and their struggles. Are we going to go deeper on Episode 7?

It’s time to look at the promo and synopsis to get a sense of what’s to come. This one looks like it will be focused more on Maria and her connection to Santa Muerte. Will it also lead to Maria’s discovery that Magda is involved in other storylines?

"Molly (Kerry Bishe) visits Tiago at his apartment as he wrestles with guilt over Diego’s (Adan Rocha) confession. Dottie (Lin Shaye) and Lewis confront Brian (Kyle McArthur) for lying about his dueling allegiances. Elsa and Frank (Santino Barnard) move in with the Crafts, igniting fear in Tom (Julian Hilliard) and Maria (Adriana Barraza). Alex and Townsend (Michael Gladis) deliberate about how to defeat Councilwoman Beck (Christine Estabrook). Josefina’s (Jessica Garza) newfound faith puts her at odds with her family. Maria has been at the center of the storylines from the beginning. And yet, she’s been on the outskirts in the storytelling. She’s the one that has a connection to Santa Muerte, who has a connection to Magda. If anyone can figure out who Rio, Alex, and Elsa really are, it’s Maria.

However, it’s not going to be easy to deal with the entire situation. Maria clearly felt something about Rio in the previous episode. Now she’s going to get a sense of the danger in Elsa’s character. And let’s not forget that the promo shows her coming across Magda. Will we find out if Magda’s powers work on women in this episode?

4. Lewis needs Tiago’s help

During the previous episode, Lewis found a way to save Tiago’s brother, Mateo. I hate that Lewis did this, but it’s clear that there was something bigger at play. Lewis didn’t want to destroy Diego’s life and coerce the confession, but he needs Tiago for something.

Lewis has been on a path to take down the Nazis. It looks like he’s going to bring Tiago in on that, and Tiago isn’t going to get a choice.

3. Beck isn’t afraid to dig

Alex is in the firing line during Penny Dreadful: City of Angels Episode 7. Councilwoman Beck is onto her, and she’s going to look deep for Alex’s secrets.

It’s going to be interesting to see what Beck actually finds. This is going to put Alex on the defensive, though, especially with Townsend seeming to pull away from her.

2. Tiago is dealing with a lot of guilt

I get that Tiago wants to protect his brother, but what he did getting a confession from Diego was wrong. He’s sending a (semi) innocent man to death. Instead, Reilly’s actual killer gets to walk free.

Tiago is going to face the guilt of his actions. He turns to Molly during the episode, but is she really going to be able to help him. After all, she’s struggling with choices of her own as she tries to pull away from her mom.

1. Lewis and Dottie continue their mission to get answers from Brian

Lewis isn’t going to stop searching for ways to bring down the Nazis. The best way forward is through Brian, the Cal-Tech student. The problem is Lewis doesn’t trust Brian and is sure this guy is working for the Nazis far more willingly than he’ll let himself on.

Lewis and Dottie will pay Brian another visit. Will Kurt also be there to check up on Brian? What’s going to happen to our two Nazi hunters?
