Fans of Tell Me a Story might have to adjust to seeing the series air elsewhere for a potential third season as CBS sends it to its sister network The CW.

For fans of the dark fairytale, series Tell Me a Story, a big adjustment is coming for the series that could affect its future. Ahead of the giant CBS All Access overhaul that is coming this summer,  the streaming service/network has decided to air Tell Me a Story on The CW for a second-run.

According to Deadline, this decision also means that a potential third season of the show would not premiere on CBS All Access, although whether it would stream there in the future remains to be seen.

The decision feels like a smart move since Kevin Williamson previously worked with The CW to deliver one of their most popular franchises in The Vampire Diaries. Plus, Tell Me a Story is geared at a younger demographic than CBS attracts, which means it should generate better ratings and a larger audience when it premieres on The CW.

It is not yet clear when the first season of the show will air, it wouldn’t be surprising if The CW saved it for a late summer or fall run since TV production has been so thoroughly disrupted by the pandemic. They may not have many other options for new content for a while and Tell Me a Story could help alter that.

The article does not confirm whether or not Tell Me a Story will be renewed, just that if it is, a new season will premiere on The CW. Despite this, the first two seasons will remain available to anyone who has CBS All Access or subscribes to the service through Amazon Video Channels.

Technically, it is “canceled” by CBS All Access, but The CW could easily pick it up for a new season. If CBS was abandoning the property altogether, they wouldn’t be bothering to re-air it on TV, which they previously did with The Good Fight.

It will be interesting to see if The CW has to make any edits or cuts to the show, which aired on a streaming service and therefore had fewer restrictions and rules than standard network television. The CW will release its fall TV schedule this Thursday, at which point we should know when the series is due to make its network television premiere.
