Penny Dreadful: City of Angels Episode 2 has certainly left us with plenty of plots happening and a lot of questions. Here are my biggest questions.

There are a lot of plots happening throughout Penny Dreadful: City of Angels that you know will connect together at some point. These plots have brought many questions, and they all lead us into bigger stories for the future.

The season continues to remind me of The Terror: Infamy. The setting, the themes, and the storylines are all extremely similar, just in a slightly different time period (a few years), with a different culture and mythology, and a different reason for the racism to take place. However, tensions are high, there are characters finding themselves caught between worlds, and resentment is growing.

And so, we’re left with what we have during Penny Dreadful: City of Angels Episode 2. This is the moment where characters have to make choices that are going to affect future actions.

But those options right now have led to some major questions. Here are my five top questions for the next episode in the season.

5. Will Mateo join Fly Rico?

Poor Mateo is struggling. He wants to live his life, but he also wants to avenge everything that’s happened to Raul. He is done with the racism in the city. It’s not surprising that he is turning against Tiago, who chose to shoot Raul to save Lewis. In Mateo’s eyes that’s betrayal—Tiago shot his own brother to save a white cop.

While at the hospital, Mateo had the offer to come to Fly Rico’s club. It’s clear that Fly Rico is bad news. It doesn’t surprise me considering the entire situation, but he’s not someone Mateo will want to get involved with.

Of course, we’re likely to see Mateo go to Fly Rico’s club. What will this lead to?
