I’ll Be Gone in the Dark is just one of the upcoming shows on HBO in the summer. The six-part docuseries now has a trailer and release date.

While broadcast TV networks may struggle for some fresh summer scripted content, the streaming and premium cable companies are ready. HBO has set the date for I’ll Be Gone in the Dark, and released the official promo for the series.

The six-part docuseries is based on the novel of the same name by Michelle McNamara. It’s a deep investigation into the dark world of the Golden State Killer. Throughout the six episodes, viewers are taken through the terrorizing events in the 70s and 80s, as the Golden State Killer invaded 50 homes and raped victims. A total of 12 were killed.

This isn’t about shining a light on the murderer, but focusing on the survivors and the families. They’re the ones who get a voice; the ones who often hide away due to shame or are dismissed due to their stories.

Like other HBO shows, the six episodes will be released on a weekly basis. You’ll get the chance to watch from June 28 at 10/9c.

I’ll Be Gone in the Dark was written by Michelle McNamara after she delved deep into the crime blogs and chat rooms about the Golden State Killer. She connected with like-minded sleuths in an attempt to uncover the truth. However, the deep dives into various unsolved cases would take their toll and she became addicted to work and to prescription drugs to manage her anxiety. Sadly, McNamara died of an accidental overdose in her sleep and her husband, Patton Oswalt, enlisted Paul Haynes and Billy Jensen to finish the book to ensure it wouldn’t go unfinished.

There are some clips of Michelle throughout the docuseries from home videos and interviews. We also get to hear from those who worked with her and knew her. This is a story about the victims, the investigators, and so much more.
