Some HBO content is free to stream on Amazon, no Prime needed
If you’re looking for something to watch, there’s some great news for HBO fans. Some TV shows have been made free to stream on Amazon.
To help with lockdown, HBO made some of its content free to stream. You don’t just need to head to HBO to watch. You can now stream everything through Amazon Prime Video for free. No Prime membership is needed; just log in with your normal Amazon account.
This offer is only available to those in the United States right now. After all, HBO is offered through different companies around the world. In Canada, we can only get HBO access through Crave.

The decision to make content free on HBO happened at the start of April as a way to help people during lockdown. There are also no ads for more than 500 hours of entertainment. Of course, the free content is mostly the original TV shows, such as The Wire, Succession, The Sopranos, and True Blood.
In the original statement, it was never clear if it would be made available through the Channel add-ons with Amazon Prime or Hulu. However, when releasing the full list of content coming to Amazon Prime Video in May 2020, Amazon made a point of announcing the free HBO content available.
Other streaming services haven’t followed suit just yet. However, Amazon has made a selection of family-friendly content free, including Clifford and Pete the Cat. There’s hours of entertainment for children, which will certainly allow parents to get some work (or housework) done! Hey, you’ll even be able to read a book in peace for maybe 20 minutes.
What is interesting about the Amazon Prime and HBO offer is that Big Little Lies is on the list of TV shows available for free. Variety made a point of saying this was one of the shows not available for free on HBO. This is your chance to check out the two seasons of awesome content.
You can also still sign up for the streamer through Amazon Channels. This is how you’ll get access to absolutely everything the streaming service has to offer.
