Westworld gets a surprising renewal: Could there be more?
Those who are enjoying the third season of the HBO show will be happy to hear Westworld Season 4 is officially happening. There may be more in the future.
There’s another season of Westworld coming. HBO confirmed the renewal, despite the declining ratings during the third season. It’s a shock to some, but after reading a Vanity Fair article, it may not be all that surprising.
According to Vanity Fair, there may be two more seasons after this. It turns out that HBO may have ordered up to Westworld Season 6, regardless of how the live ratings hold out. After all, it’s not like HBO has to worry too much about the live ratings because it’s not worried about advertisers!

The suggestion comes from the nine-figure overall deal the showrunners, Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, received from Amazon. This reportedly included a payout for the final three seasons of the western robot drama. Considering this was after the third season renewal, it does suggest a fifth and sixth season will also happen.
The ratings for Westworld Season 3 has slumped considerably, though! According to TV Series Finale, the show has lost 49% of its audience and 62% of its demo from the second season. Many expected a cancellation after that performance.
Despite the large drop at the beginning of the season, the live ratings week-to-week have been relatively steady. This could have been the deciding factor. Considering the two-year break between Seasons 2 and 3, HBO likely expected a large drop. And we don’t get to know the exact figures through the streaming platform.
When officially renewing the show, HBO confirmed in a press release that the Season 3 premiere pulled in nine million viewers across all platforms. This definitely is the Game of Thrones level of ratings but is anything going to hit those figures? Not yet!
There’s no date for the fourth season yet. Considering the previous seasons have taken two years, we’ll likely get it in 2022.
