Watchmen DVD release promoted as a limited series

Watchmen Season 1 is heading to DVD and Blu-ray in June 2020. However, the series is being promoted as an HBO limited series.

We’ve had plenty of questions about the future of Watchmen. It wasn’t quite a self-contained story with the way it ended. There are many out there who would love to see a second season. However, the Watchmen Season 1 DVD release, set for June 2020, has suggested there isn’t any more of the series.

Promoted as Watchmen: An HBO Limited Series, the DVD and Blu-ray will be released on June 2, 2020. It’s telling that it will be released as a limited series. While there were discussions of the show landing a second season, it looks like the final decision has been made. After all, Big Little Lies was never released as a limited series when it made it to DVD and Blu-ray.

In a way, the reclassification shouldn’t be all that surprising. Creator Damon Lindelof stepped down as showrunner after the first season, saying that he’d done what he intended to do and never intended to create a second season. HBO decided not to find another showrunner.
