Why Amazon Prime is still worth it even with Disney Plus and other streaming sites

Disney Plus, Apple TV+, and other streaming sites are threatening the future of Netflix, Amazon Prime and more. Amazon Prime is still worth it. Here’s why.

Streaming platforms were supposed to be the way to cut the cord. Offering a cheaper alternative to cable, they were supposed to be an excellent financial option. That’s changing with the introduction of more streaming services, such as Disney Plus, Apple TV+, and more. Is there still any value in the likes of Amazon Prime?

I’d say so, and that’s not just because I run an Amazon-focused website. Amazon Prime offers a lot more than just a place to stream TV shows and movies. The $12.99 per month/$119 per year cost offers you access to TV shows and movies, as well as two-day free shipping, Kindle Unlimited, Prime Music, Twitch, and so much more.

More from Amazon

It’s an all-access membership. You can quickly save money over the course of the year on your shipping costs. You get to save money by borrowing books through Kindle Unlimited. The cost for the streamer is more of an investment.

However, to make the most of it, you need to use it. If you’re only getting it for Amazon Prime Video, it may not be 100% perfect for you. After all, the streamer has a limited choice when it comes to movies compared to the likes of Disney Plus, Netflix, and others. Sure, there are some excellent Amazon Originals, like Good OmensThe BoysThe Man in the High Castle, and Jack Ryan, but there aren’t that many options when it comes to third-party content.

However, if you are getting the service just for Prime Video, you’ll want to pay monthly. You can then drop the service during the months there isn’t much of interest and pick it back up when your favorite originals are released. This is the way no-contract streamers were designed to make them as financially beneficial as possible.

However, don’t forget that with Amazon Prime, you can also get access to the Amazon Channels add-ons. This allows you access to HBO Now, STARZ, Acorn TV, and so many more options. While they do cost extra on top of your Prime membership (you’re not paying more than going to the services directly, though), they do make it easier to manage your finances. The costs are lumped together, so you only pay one monthly payment for everything you sign up to.

It’s also possible to access the content through your Prime account. It saves having to have multiple logins to manage it all.

But the power is in the extra offerings through Prime. If you’re a big shopper on Amazon, I highly recommend Amazon Prime to everyone. You’ll certainly save on fees, making your membership money back. If you love access to free games through Twitch, this is going to be worth signing up to Prime for.

These are all offerings that Disney Plus, Apple TV+, and other streamers can’t possibly offer. That’s what makes Amazon Prime still valuable in today’s streaming world.
