Don’t miss the HBO series premiere of new series His Dark Materials starring Ruth Wilson. Plus, Amazon gets a few other new movies this week.
We’re officially into our first week of November. So what should you watch when you have some downtime this week between work shifts? Well, there’s always Amazon Originals, Jack Ryan. The second season of the series was released last weekend.
Additionally, a new month means new films are added to Amazon’s already extensive catalog. A large portion of the James Bond movies have been added to the streaming service if that interests you!
But if you’ve already watched everything from our last weekend post, there are some offerings for this week too including a new prestige cable television series premiere and the return of infamous slasher, Leatherface!

His Dark Materials Series Premiere
- Starring: Dafne Keen, James McAvoy, Ruth Wilson, Clarke Peters, Lewin Lloyd, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Anne-Marie Duff
- Available: Nov. 4 on HBO
His Dark Materials is based on the iconic book series of the same name written by Philip Pullman. The fantasy show is set in an alternate reality where humans are accompanied by animals known as dæmons.
These beings are created from their human counterpart’s souls. The show will focus on Dafne Keen’s character, Lyra. She will uncover a mysterious conspiracy involving kidnappings at the heart of her boarding school. Thus far, His Dark Materials is receiving great reviews from critics.
Look Away (2018)
- Directed by: Assaf Bernstein
- Starring: India Eisley, Mira Sorvino, and Jason Isaacs
- Available: Nov. 4 on HBO
In this intriguing thriller starring India Eisley in the leading role, her character gets wrapped up in a strange and surreal existence after she switches place with her mirror image.
It’s a twisty movie that flew under the radar last year but if you have HBO through Prime Video Channels you’ll be able to check it out for yourself this week.
Texas Chainsaw 3D (2013)
- Directed by: John Luessenhop
- Starring: Alexandra Daddario, Dan Yeager, Trey Songz, Scott Eastwood, Tania Raymonde, Thom Barry, Paul Rae, Richard Riehle, Bill Moseley, Marilyn Burns, John Dugan, and Gunnar Hansen
- Available: Nov. 6
For those of you that aren’t quite ready to give up that Halloween spirit just yet, watch Texas Chainsaw 3D when it hits Amazon this week. It’s a terrifically fun movie, albeit not one of the best slashers out there. But personally, I had a blast watching it. Plus, it contains appearances from some of the notable actors and actresses from the original 1974 film like Marilyn Burns!
Texas Chainsaw 3D focuses on Daddario’s character, Heather, who travels with a group of friends to collect her inheritance from her grandmother who she knew little about. It puts her and her pals directly into the crosshairs of her cousin, Leatherface.
